… and it was bad — ’cause it was my bike cleat. At my 33 mile turn around point today I finally checked the cleat that hadn’t been clipping out easily. I had forgotten about it with the long stretches without stopping And it was missing a screw, and the others were loose. […]

Simply put I am floored by the Canadian mens eight. I absolutely admire their dedication and total commitment, they quietly talk the talk and they most certainly walk the walk. They own a subtle underlying confidence that is backed up by an enormous am…

OK, so another problem with evening races: the ache in the legs has little chance to dissipate, and so will make sleep difficult. I think I managed about 5 hours last night. Not nearly enough.
Since this was far from an A race, it was back to training today. My intention was to get in a good ride today, since I didn’t get much yesterday. According to the calendar, I was planning to do an FTP

Evening races are tough. They take up pretty much your whole day, especially if you have to travel to get to them. With a 6:30 start, and packet pickup before 3, that was our day. We hit the expo briefly, then hung out by the lake for a few hours, just relaxing, then I was off to the start line. I got a brief warm-up, with some pick-ups, then tried to get a spot near the front of the corral.

Made a trip to Rolla/Newburg today to check out the raod race course for next weeks St Race. Downloaded the Garmin data, check it out here. It will be interesting to compare the difference from today’s ride effort vs. race effort. Not sure what I think of the course, will have to decide after the race. I do know this, the biggest hill 20 miles into the race will determine the lead break, 13% is

Ya know Ironman fitness is so cool. Yesterday I had the greatest swim. Real busy at work now. I have a great job, in that I can basically set the time to do things. It’s mostly tied down to dates and timelines. How I get there is up to me most of the time. So yesterday I decided […]

Since I didn’t get any advice to the contrary, I followed my plan of going out for a quick little spin this morning. I met up with other TTC members just before 9:00. Unlike last week, this week the parking lot was full. Another coach was using the same spot as a jumping off point for his group rides today, so spaces were limited. Our little group got together to plan out the day. Since I was

I’m learning that habits, good or bad, are pretty powerful things. They’re so powerful in fact, I’ve recently come to admit that some of mine have involved behaviors I didn’t even enjoy, but simply felt compelled to repeat regardless of knowing I’d just feel like crap in the end. From oversleeping to letting people regularly waste my time, my actions and interactions weren’t benefiting me at all,

On Wednesdays, I kept sneaking (or being assigned) into the faster lane, until I finally became a regular. However, I was still held out of that lane on Mondays and Fridays. Now, I’ve begun the process of becoming part of that lane on the other days. I feel kind of like Jane Goodall (so maybe the title should be Gorilla Missions). I hang out on the edge (or the back), until I’m accepted as one of

Last night began what I hope to be something that catches on and sticks. Four others and I met up in the Hermann Industrial Park for a crit workout. The park has a nice 1.15 mile, 7 corner circuit with a nice 10% grade hill which turn into 5% before reaching the top for a elevation gain of 100 feet per lap. Speeds of 35+ are reached coming down the hill and, no traffic. It’s an out and back
